February 2010 Newsletter

The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. on 2/18/2010 by President, Sharon Abramson.

Minutes were read and approved by Secretary, Bob Dawson.

Treasurer, Karen Secor, reported that the bills have been paid, a CD purchased, and the checking account balance is in the black.

Nancy McCabe reported that the 1st Friday programs are set through August. A copy is posted at the desk as well as at the KCVB. The Clyde Mikkola drawing class was very well attended and well received. 1st Friday events are increasingly popular thanks to the cooperation of many businesses and varied offerings. Yeah! This is a real bright spot for Calumet!

Edith Wiard and Kathy Carlton-Johnson have been hard at work on a book about the CCAA. Proofreading is taking place and we hope there will be a book signing soon.

Monie Erickson has been voted an honorary member of CCAA. She is presently at Our Lady of Mercy Nursing Home, 52225 B Ave. (Room 9), Hubbell, MI 49934.

It was noted that Jan Manniko has made a wonderful donation to our history collection of a pen and ink drawing. There was a thank you from members present. This is a wonderful pen and ink drawing of a quilting session and can be viewed at the Gallery.

Great Lakes Showcase applications are available at the Gallery and applications are due March 12th. Please consider entering this excellent exhibit.

It is also noted that the Ed Gray Gallery is hosting a Juried Show, “Life on the Keweenaw”, with entries due by March 1st. We thank Ed Gray for providing opportunities to local artists to display their work.

Karen Secor reported that confirmations and applications have been mailed out for the Eagle Harbor Art Fair. There are extra forms available at the Gallery.

Please, if you sign up to work and find you cannot later, don’t just cross off your name from the calendar. Others may not be aware of this and assume the Gallery is covered. Make sure you find someone to work for you.
