The Studio/Gallery provides space for the creation of one's art, and the walls serve as exhibit space. Discussions about technique, art history, etc. and helpful critiques serve to enhance the creative experience.

Workshops and demonstrations by the members serve to provide knowledge and spark interest in learning new techniques and trying new media.

First Friday Events at The CCAA . 2011

For the First Friday in October, the Copper Country Associated Artists will be hosting a very special session by guest artist, Steve Hecht. Steve will be demonstrating the traditional art of Flint-knapping. This is a technique where tools such as arrow points, scrapers and knives are fashioned from stone…typically obsidian, but Steve uses many varieties of rocks and different methods to create his pieces. He has been Flint–knapping for about fifteen years. His interest in rocks and minerals led him to many shows where this was taught.
The demonstration will take place at the CCAA Gallery from about 6:30 to 8:30 on October 7th. Attendees will be able to learn methods by limited participation and observation, but since it generally takes many hours for a pro like Steve to create a single piece, this will not be a take-home project. Attendees may enter a drawing to to win the completed piece.
The CCAA gallery is located at 112 Fifth Street in Calumet. From October through the Christmas season we will be open from Thursday through Saturday, 11 am till 4pm, in addition to First Fridays.

The start of the holiday season is very special to many artists, because
it's a chance to create an original ornament or decoration by and that can
be displayed, passed on, and cherished as a reminder of the care and
thoughtfulness that is put into homemade gifts. At the November First
Friday at the Copper Country Associated Artists gallery, you will be able to
recapture that holiday spirit! Fabric artists Karen Secor & Millie Little
will help you make a very special ornament using several techniques such as
fabric fusing, embroidery, and embellishing with beads and buttons. If you
have some special items you would like to incorporate into a piece such as
an antique button, a treasure or even a lock of hair from somebody special,
bring them along. Otherwise, all materials will be provided. This, like
all of our First Friday workshops, is free and open to the public.
The event will be from 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM November 4th at the CCAA Gallery,

Christmas Open House at the
Copper Country Associated Artists

Christmas in Calumet will begin on Friday, December 2nd at 6 pm with the
lighting of the Christmas tree. First Friday in Calumet will begin shortly
after that with many galleries and restaurants offering festive treats for
the taste buds and the eyes.

At the Copper Country Associated Artists, we have been working like Santa's
little elves preparing decorations to brighten up your holiday season. From
Dolly Luoma's felted Penguins to Nancy McCabe's fused glass Christmas trees,
the studio will be stuffed to the brim with ornaments and treasures.
Refreshments will be plentiful and tasty, but best of all, Jerry Hammes, our
featured artist for the winter months, will be at the studio from 6:30 pm
till 7:30 pm to share recollections and autograph the prints of his
paintings available for sale.

Winter hours at the CCAA studio are from 11am till 4pm, Thursday through
Saturday, and 11-9 on First Fridays.
